Mothers Day goes Behind the News On this Island

Some Mothers do have 'em. Saturday night dinners, Sunday bruncheons, followed by Sunday night cocktails.

Still, between feasts I'm compelled to post a brief mention about last nights  dinner launch of  the Art Exhibition ‘On This Island’.

Curated by Owen Craven http://www.facebook.com/owencraven Hazelhurst Regional Gallery http://bit.ly/aAkBVe hosted an evening, that would satisfy the most hard and fast critic.

As the guest of my son Daniel Mudie Cunningham, the event was imbued with a degree of  nostalgia. Aside from my appreciation for the Arts, he knew I’d equally enjoy the Emcee Richard Morecroft http://www.richardmorecroft.com

Former ABC TV Host delighed guests with an after dinner, Parkinson-style interview with a couple of the artists.

All that aside, during the fireside chat, I pondered the memories of the years my son’s followed Richard's TV show ‘Behind The News’ [BtN]. I'm not a sentimental individual, but I enjoyed my private little trip down memory lane. Certainly, Richard appreciated hearing he’d become part of our family folk lore.

Mothers Day hasn’t always be a source of such simple pleasures. There  was a brief period where I refused it, denied my remaining sons the joy of reaching out to their mother.

Notwithstanding, with another trip to New York fast approaching,  staying in Sydney for this Mothers Day wasn't to be missed.

All I can add is ...Salute!

NB: In March 2009, ‘Artist Profile’ led eleven prominent artists on a painting tour of New Zealand’s North Island. 'On This Island' is the culmination of each artist’s unique approach to the unfamiliar landscape, following their plein air experiences back into the studio.  One mountain – eleven answers.
